Grand European Tour

This journey was conceived by Charlemagne in 793 but it wasn’t until 1992 that this river cruise was even possible.  In September of 1992, the Main-Danube Canal, which is 106 miles long and  took 30 years to construct, enabled river travel from the North Sea to the Black Sea.  The journey from Amsterdam to Budapest sails through 6 countries - Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary on the Rhein, Main, and Danube Rivers.  We visited Amsterdam and Kinderdijk in The Netherlands; Cologne, Koblenz & the Middle Rhein, Miltenberg, Rothenburg & Wurzburg, Bamburg, Nuremberg, Regensburg, and Passau in Germany; Melk and Vienna in Austria; Bratislava in Slovakia, and Budapest in Hungary all on the Danube in 14 glorious sunny days of luxury travel on the Viking Baldur.  The trip couldn’t have been more perfect.
